4-DAY MOUNT MERU HIKING

Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, passing through rolling farmland and the spectacular plains of Arusha National Park. After registering at the park gate, you start a gentle hike through lush Montane Forest, home to colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and a vibrant array of birds. Waterfalls and streams punctuate the trail, making it a serene introduction to the mountain. Evening brings a restful overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut, surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
The trail rises into heath and moorland zones, leaving the dense forest behind. Giant lobelias and groundsel plants dominate the landscape, creating a highland environment unique to East Africa. The path gradually steepens as you approach Saddle Hut, nestled between Little Meru and the main summit. Afternoon offers time to rest and admire panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and the surrounding plains.
A midnight start sets you on the summit push, ascending steep volcanic slopes under a starlit sky.
